Which Opening Offers the Highest ROI to Study?
A new online tool for finding the opening you should fix.
In my last newsletter, I tried to build a puzzle-generator based on a method used by DeepMind, I only partly succeeded. The model I trained made only one puzzle in 10,000 tries, which was to be expected with my limited compute. But try to solve it!
After the puzzle experiment I got distracted and built my own chess engine, before I got a new idea..
What if I created a site, where I quickly could find out what opening I had to study.
Like what is the greatest ROI (Return of Investment) of my opening study time?
The idea is pretty simple you enter your account names from Lichess and Chesscom (or just one). Then the site gathers your 300 most recent games and locate the opening lines where you are weakest or performing suboptimally.
There might still be some bugs and fine-tuning of the algorithm, but I would be interested in hearing your thoughts. Is it something you would use? Also if the results matches your own experience.

Nice idea, Martin, and worth pursuing. Thanks for letting me try it out.
One suggestion: It might be helpful to users to have the advice reported in two categories, one for your Black openings, and one for your White openings.
I love this, it actually gave me an opening I need to work on since it also comes up in my OTB games and I don’t perform well against it! It did cut off a bit early but it was still helpful, thank you :)
