Just a short update from me this week. Currently, I’m experiencing a bit of lack of motivation to actively work on my game. I do not have any classical OTB games planned or even long online games in the calendar. The reason for this is that in around 4 weeks I will become a Dad for the 4th time :)
So it does not seem to be the perfect time to signup for any time-consuming activities. This however also affects my eagerness to work on my game.
I have not stopped training, I’m reading ‘Game Changer’ (great so far), solving puzzles from my Red book, following JB’s blindfold puzzles, and playing rapid games.
But I would be interested to hear what you do in periods when you can’t play any rated tournament games to stay motivated. Do you have any advice?
Sometimes it is good to take the focus off chess or any other activity. I would say that solving puzzles and studies would be beneficial to staying in shape.
I remember when my daughter was born, and long games were off of the table for me (even rapid games seemed a bit long). I did keep up with a tactics trainer online, just to make sure I kept up some form of training, and I reviewed my openings on chessable and my lichess study.
If feeling super motivated, even reviewing some of your prior games is possible.
♥️♥️♥️ Yessir! Congrats.
Adult chess is a marathon and not a sprint so forget about that. Congrats again on the new kid. That is the best. Woop
Thank you! And you are right, sometimes I can get afraid that I sometimes will forget everything I have learned and need to start over 😄

I think that is a healthy perspective! Definitely want to stay in shape
Hi Martin:
First of all, congratulations!

Thank you :) I probably just have to adjust my mindset and expectations slightly
Thank you! Maybe I should reread one of his books ;)
