♔Round 2 - Holbæk Efterår 2021 (Game Report) - Newsletter from Say Chess
Martin B. Justesen
Hi!
This is my game report from my Tuesday OTB game. If you remember I got a draw in round 1 against a 2000+ player. In the second round I had White again, and my opponent was rated 1868 FIDE.
A Little higher than me. I didn’t know my opponent too well, but I had an idea that he was an aggressive player, which he after the game said was wrong! So I should probably follow my clubmate’s games a little closer moving forward. Before the game, I looked at a line in the London played in Rubinstein - Tartakower (1922) (mentioned in “The London Attack: An Ambitious Repertoire” on Chessable):
Akiba Rubinstein vs Savielly Tartakower London (1922), 1-0
Rubinstein managed to keep his pieces on the board and create an attack on the King-side. My game did not go in the same direction since my opponent took on c5 with his Bishop in the opening, which you will see in the video. Even though I won my game, which I was happy about, the way I played the opening has been bugging me after I made the analysis. In the game, I ended up trading off pieces and was left with a symmetrical and dry position. Therefore I’m left with the question:
How and why did I manage to get such a dry position out of the opening? And am I avoiding complications?
A question I’m still pondering, but you can watch my game report on my YouTube channel, but before you go watch the game, you can test yourself and see what you would play in this position from my game:
White to move
Okay, I hope you managed to find a good move. Now time to look at the game report on YouTube:
Too dry? (Game report - Round 2)
Let me know what you think?
Best,
Martin
