Newsletter of Say Chess - Update about my next book - Issue #1
Hi {{first_name}}!
This newsletter looks a little different. I moved over to another service called Revue. Revue has just partnered with Twitter and since I’m a lot on Twitter it makes sense to switch from Mailchimp. If you signed up for this newsletter to get my book and don’t want more Newsletters, then you can just unsubscribe at the bottom.
However, I hope you will stay and follow my chess projects. I can tell you that I have started working on my next book and I will share it for free with the people who signed up for the newsletter like with ‘Blindfold Endgame Visualization’.
How will the next book be different?
Blindfold Endgame Visualization has some really challenging studies in it that many of you have struggled with. Overall I think it is okay that there are some really hard puzzles, but with the next book, I want to lower the difficulty level a bit.
Secondly, the book will be based on Lichess endgame positions with 6 or fewer pieces, and I will incorporate a star-rating system like in the Yusupov-series.
Thirdly, I also want to include blindfold opening puzzles like this one:
1. e4 d5 2. exd5 Nf6 3. Bb5+ c6 4. dxc6 bxc6 5. Qf3 Bd7 6. d3?
Black to move
Here are some more blindfold puzzles to practice on:
⭐⭐⭐⭐
♖a7 ♕g8 ♔f7
♟b2 ♜c8 ♚c1
Black to play
⭐
♙h4 ♕a8 ♔b5
♟h5 ♞d5 ♚e7
Black to play
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
♙g2 ♘e1 ♔d1
♟g4, h4 ♚f2
Black to play
In the book, I will add explanations and variations to the solutions, so you get more than just the best line. Please send any feedback to the puzzles to saychess1@gmail.com
I have also tweeted out a poll about the number of puzzles the book should contain. You can find the poll below:
How many blindfold puzzles do you think my next book should contain? 🧩
Currently, about 38% think the book should contain 100 puzzles with 300 trailing with 32%. I haven’t yet decided how long it will be, but this time I will make it 100 puzzles or longer.
That was it for now. I hope you enjoyed this new newsletter format, and please help spread the word :)
Best,
Martin / Say Chess

Week 4 Chess Training - The Say Chess Blog
Only got 5 hours of chess in last week. It was a week with evenings used on Handball (Denmark won the WC again!), my birthday, and then I have been pretty tired due to having my kids home from school while working. Hopefully, the schools will reopen soon and some kind of normality can return.… Continue reading Week 4 Chess Training →
