Day 1 - Chess Traps 🪤
Martin B. Justesen
Day 1 of digital detox My day started early at 5:40, so I could go to the office in Copenhagen before my wife and kids woke up. It is sometimes more stressful when everyone has to go out of the door at the same time. It was clearly a different morning since I didn’t check the news and my Twitter feed on my phone, which I would have done any other morning. I just sat there with my oatmeal and a cup of coffee. On the train, I had brought with me Yusupov’s ‘Boost Your Chess’. There was a dog-ear around chapter 9 (The use of traps). It was slightly easier to convince myself to take out the book since I had nothing else to do. I was not particularly skillful in finding these traps, my thought process was at best sluggish, but at least I started. Sergei Vesselovsky vs Lev PsakhisKrasnojarsk (1980)Spanish Game: Closed. Bogoljubow Variation (C91) · 0-1
Black to moveLev Psakhis played into the trap, but Sergei Vesselosky did not spot the resource and resigned when he had a draw.
I managed to finish the chapter on my way back from work. All in all I felt productive.
Thought of the day
Like Vesselosky we can sometimes time get lost in a narrative and believe it so much that it becomes a new reality.
I will be back with more updates later on. Please help spread the word about the newsletter now that I can’t 😄
Have a nice weekend everyone!
